HAZARDOUS HOUSEHOLD MATERIALS MOVERS WON’T TOUCH
Most people do not know that moving companies will refuse to move items that are hazardous. If the containers for such items open or are broken in the van and spill, they pose a danger to the movers, their equipment, and your other belongings. Some materials are extremely dangerous if they just get on a person’s hands. In addition, a moving trip can include bumpy roads, altitude changes that increase pressure on cans and tanks, and accidents. Here are three groups of products movers won’t touch, and some guidance on how to dispose of them:

Anything that can explode or is flammable: Alcohol Aerosol cans, including air fresheners and hair spray Fire extinguishers Kerosene Matches and lighters Motor oil Paint thinner Propane tanks for the grill Spare cans of gasoline Oxidizers, such as oxygen tanks and hydrogen peroxide

Anything poisonous or corrosive: Any kind of battery, including car batteries Garden and indoor pesticides Liquid chlorine bleach Nail polish and polish remover Paint (latex or oil) Antifreeze Motor oil Pool chemicals Weed killers Strong cleaners, such as drain cleaners Items containing strong acids, such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid

Weapons and items that can be used to make weapons: Ammonia-based cleaners Ammunition Firearms Fireworks Garden fertilizers

Dispose of hazardous items properly. When you’re organizing the items, you’ll be moving, make a place to keep the hazardous items you’re not taking. Then get rid of them correctly. It can be dangerous for people, animals, and the environment when these items wind up in recycling plants or landfills. Look up the laws for your county, read the labels, and find a drop-off location or arrange for a home pick-up if that’s offered by a waste management company in your area. Here’s more about these materials and how to safely dispose of them.

My wife and I recently

My wife and I recently purchased our home in Joliet, and we used Jim Passi from CityWide Mortgage to get our mortgage. Throughout the entire time, from the first moment we called him to the closing day and beyond, Jim was just amazing. He answered all our questions, some repeatedly, with grace and compassion. He even worked with me while I was having a few temper tantrums on him.

Jim took the time to explain every detail of the process to us, because we have no clue about this process. We aren’t finance people. He is extremely patient with us on every question, and aspect of the mortgage process from preapproval all the way up and through the closing. He explained to us why he does things the way he does, versus the way other brokers do things, and they make complete sense.

We will and DO recommend Jim from CityWide Mortgage to everyone looking to purchase a home today or in the future. Jim is the best mortgage guy one can work with.

Thank you for all you did for us.
